Vehicle Assembly Building
In November 1962 workers begin construction on one of the largest buildings in the world, the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB). The structure is not the tallest in the world, but it remains one of the largest in volume and can hold nearly four Empire State Buildings. Originally designed to support the stacking of the Saturn V moon rocket, it supports Space Shuttle operations today. Just one star in the flag painted on the exterior of the building is 6 feet tall.
